One of Them
11:01 AM
Acts 9:3-9
As he journeyed he came near Damascus, and suddenly a light shone around him from heaven. Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one. Then Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened he saw no one. But they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
NKJV – “Suddenly a light shone…”
NIV – “Suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him…”
Message – “He was suddenly dazed by a blinding flash of light…”
No matter how you want to say it…In a flash of light a life was changed forever. That is how it is isn’t it? God meets us right where we are at. He comes to us in a flash of lightening…suddenly, immediately, and quickly. He speaks to us and our heart just melts. I find it interesting that God meets Saul…and Saul meets the ground. Again, that is how it is…Who can stand before the Almighty God? Saul, who terrified and sent many into trembling, is now feeling the trembling in his own heart and soul. In an instant all of his plans were gone…now there is nothing but the darkness…a sea of perpetual black and void.
Saul steps out in faith…blind faith…literally…he had to…all of his choices were stripped from him. His plan was now hidden from him…his path was gone. God removed all distractions from Saul’s eyes…Saul’s future was about to change…and here is a great lesson. New eyes are needed for new vision.
