380 Shoes
8:37 AM
This past Sunday was our "300 pair of shoes for 300 kids" outreach event. In a nutshell it was great. In fact it was better than great...it was awesome!
We ended up with 380 shoes to hand out! We also had probably the biggest attending crowd ever in the history of our church. It was inspiring and humbling. God is so much bigger than my imagination or expectation. I am just so thankful for what the Lord is doing in Marble Falls.
All that aside...our altars were full and many returned to the Lord that night. It was such a humbling experience. There were a few people that wanted my sermon notes, so I thought I would post them here.
So...it's Christmas...and it's time that I be were I am at...so I will write more once the holidays are over...
I am happy to have all of you here tonight. It’s Christmas. This is the time of year we are busy about family, traveling, and many other things. It’s really easy to forget that 2000 years ago something so incredible happened. A child was born. This wasn’t just any child. This child was to be the redemption of all of mankind…and listen…most of you know the story. Most of you have heard about Jesus. You know the story of him being born into this world to be the atoning sacrifice for all of mankind. We might not fully understand it, but we’ve heard it. Tonight, with all of these shoes behind me, I want to refer to you this one scripture…
Galatians 2:20 (paraphrasing)
“I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ in me…”
We didn’t, out of our own hearts, conceive to do something like this. We don’t get to take credit for this idea or even the finances that had to come together to make this happen. We can only give credit to the one who passionately pursues our heart, our Lord Jesus Christ. It is Him and Him alone that has put this entire thing together. It is Him and Him alone that has drawn you, even now, to this place. It isn’t by coincidence that you are here tonight. You see, God is always calling His children to him. Tonight He wants more than anything for you to know how much He loves you. He wants you to know that He is with you even now. He is with you even when you refuse to acknowledge it. He is with you in your greatest moments and even in your darkest hours.
Listen…I don’t know where you are at spiritually tonight…but I do know more than anything that God is calling some of you to return to Him. He is tugging on your heart right now…and maybe you already know Jesus. Maybe you already have a relationship with Him but have long since walked away…let me tell you…tonight is your night. Anyone can hand out shoes and we are happy to do so, but I’ve got to be honest…what God wants is far more than just to give shoes to you. He wants to give you gift of salvation and the gift of a relationship with Him. He loves you and is calling you to return to Him.
So this is your night and this is a special night because this is the night you come home. This is the night where the Bible says that all the angels sing praises unto God as every son and daughter return to the arms of God. This night will be a great homecoming event for those who chose to return…those that decide today to pursue a relationship with Jesus Christ.
And listen…some will say I’ve done this or I’ve done that…none of that matters…2000 years ago God birthed into this world a son who would bare the weight of sin on His shoulders. His sacrifice on the cross redeemed us from our past and from our future. All God has asked from us is a relationship. I stand here today as a witness to this. I am a witness of His everlasting grace and mercy. I stand here before you today pleading with you that your past doesn’t have to dictate your future…there is still hope…there is still time. Your redemption is but a decision away. This Christmas the greatest gift you receive won’t be a pair of shoes…it will be a new life…a restored life…a blessed life.
