Jeremiah 1:19

"They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD."

Jeremiah 20:14 (paraphrased)

"Cursed be the day I was born!"

What a contrast from the beginning...

God tells Jeremiah that the fight will not overcome you. I wonder if Jeremiah ever thought that the fight for his own soul would come from the inside. When God tells you that the fight against you will not overcome you, I bet Jeremiah never thought that his own mind and heart would be or could be the enemy.

But that is how it is isn't it?

It seems often that our greatest battles aren't with others but within our own flesh. The greatest battles are often within our own souls. Flesh is waging war with the Spirit...and we feel beat up and ripped apart. I actually saw a study on PBS TV last night that stated depression actually takes a physical toll on the brain, thus the reason they look at depression as a physical illness and not just some mental condition.

The more God grows my heart...the more I believe that the greatest battles in our lives happen within our own souls. There is a wretched time when self-pity rises up to choke us of our annointing, appointing, and calling. There are times when our greatest enemy is ourselves.

Be on guard against such times...
