I don’t think I have ever mentioned this before, but my 16 month old is crazy about the movie “Nacho Libre”. She absolutely loves it. It’s the only movie, outside of Wall-E, that she will sit down during the whole thing and just watch it. It’s weird and funny at the same time.

So to be honest… I think I’ve actually seen the movie now a few dozen times. It gets funnier the more I watch it. Want to hear something even more bothersome is how I am starting to see some great fundamentals being developed from the storyline. Here are a few thoughts on the flick…

+ In the beginning Stephen only believes in science. However, by the end of the movie he is praying to God with Nacho. You got to love a friendship between a believer and an unbeliever where the faith of one converts the other.

+ I love the underlying message that God is for those who serve him with humility and don’t seek their own vain glory. Fighting for what is right is more important that fighting for self pleasure.

+ Last…I love the name “Nacho Libre”. Nacho is nothing more than a short alias for Ignacio, but Libre means “free”. How many of us have a dream inside of us waiting to get out? For Nacho it was to be a wrestler. That was his heart. His name can literally be translated “Nacho Free”. Can I be honest with you? That last point really strikes home with me. I hope it does the same for you. Are you free today? Are you living your dreams? Or…are you settling for life as a routine. Nacho was living in a routine for nearly half his life, until the dream grew so strong that couldn’t be held in any longer…and with that…Ignacio became Libre.

Are you Libre?
