Blogs, Tweets, and Prayer…
9:18 AM
It’s been a strange week of emails, tweets, and news.
I got an email this past week from WaterBrook Multnomah letting me know that I will be receiving an advanced copy of Mark Batterson’s new book, Primal. Pretty excited about that! Looking forward to devouring the entire thing in a few days!
Also saw that Tim Stevens, author of the book “Pop Goes the Church” is following me on twitter…that’s weird. Cool…but weird.
Speaking about twitter….I follow Matt Chandler, @mattchandler74, (Sr. Pastor of the Village Church in Highland Village, Texas) and I read that he had a seizure and is having to go to the doctor on Monday. My prayers are for him and his family.
Anyway…got a lot of writing to do…going to do a big update this next week once I get back to the office!
"300" Update
10:06 AM
Good Morning Marble Falls First A/G!Here is a report on our "300 pairs of shoes for 300 kids" campain...
The calls are pouring in. It's only been a week and we are one third of the way there! Here are the logistical numbers:
1. Our goal is 300 pairs of shoes for 300 kids. (If we get more that's fine, but that is our goal.)
2. We have 88 kids signed up as of 9:30am this morning.
3. We only have 14 pairs of shoes that have been purchased and brought to the church.
4. 22 names were picked up to be purchased for and have not brought in their shoes.
What does all this mean? Time to get busy buying shoes!
For those that have already bought a few pairs, bring them to the church. We need shoes that have been purchased brought to the church, and for you to pick up a few more names to purchase for. This is our time and our opportunity to be the hands and feet of God.
300 Shoes for 300 Kids
10:58 AM
(That's 300 pairs of shoes for 300 kids...for all the jokesters!) :)
Last night we launched a major outreach for our church, “300 Shoes for 300 Kids”. It wasn’t an original idea…it wasn’t even my idea…but it is a God idea! It also couldn’t be at a better time for my church. Its purpose is two-fold really. We are right in the middle of a leadership transition and it’s easy to focus on that right now and not on what we should be focusing on…which is Jesus. He should always be the focus of the church…but sometimes transition can be a distraction…and sometimes distraction esculates into unproductiveness.
I don’t believe that is where God wants us. Transitions should never distract us from our original mission.
Acts 1:8
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
So we are focusing our attention back on what God originally told us. To “go and be witnesses”…of His glory, of His grace, of His mercy, of His love, and of His patience…
Saying all of that…Does your child need shoes?
If you live in Marble Falls or any of its surrounding cities…call us today and get your kids on our list. We will be having a special service on December 20, Sunday night, at 5pm to hand them out!

I Am Your Husband
10:45 AM
A few weeks ago I listened as a preacher, (who was awesome), prophesied over the congregation. He quoted Jeremiah 3:15…
“Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.”
It was good. It was timely…but I don’t know if it paints an accurate description of what or more importantly why God wants to give us shepherds after His own heart…let me explain.
First of all this happens all the time. We read a scripture of promise without reading the details that lead up to the promise. It kind of reminds me of just hearing what we want to hear…or reading what we want to read. We read the good stuff because the bad stuff just depresses us. Here is the thing though…we fail to accurately understand why and what God is saying to us. So we read verse 15, because we don’t like verse 14…because verse 14 throws things into perspective about the condition of the church…
But what is God saying?
Jeremiah 3:14
“Return, faithless people,” declares the LORD, “for I am your husband. I will choose you—one from a town and two from a clan—and bring you to Zion.”
God says with a resounding echo, “RETURN”. He calls our lack of faith out, our inability to believe that He can do above and beyond all of our expectations…but what is found next is the voice of compassion. God says, “I am your husband”. Those 4 words are life, they are words of love and compassion. He is saying, “Return to Me! Have faith in Me! I love you! You are betrothed to Me! We are married! You are My bride, my heart, my passion, my love…”
Are you getting any of this?
When you get to verse 15 it is the result of a “return to God”. You don’t get shepherds after God’s own heart unless you return to Him. So reading verse 15 without reading verse 14 doesn’t work…
On a different note…
I love it when God says, “I am your husband”. It’s an emotional outpouring of love, sincerity, and compassion. It’s overflowing and beautiful. It represents a God who loves us so deeply that it hurts Him when we prostitute ourselves to other things…things that keep a barrier between us and Him.
